Title: Summer Circus Skills
Location: The Hall, St Johns Church, Hallowell Road, Northwood
Description: A full week of circus skills with Albert and Friends Instant Circus with a final day demonstration of new skills learned and improved

Monday 30 July - Friday 03 August 2012 from 10:30 to 03:30

The fully trained staff from Albert and Friends will teach daring skills such as tight wire walking (6 inches above the ground!); stilt walking (for beginners as well as those with more experience), juggling, ball walking, unicycle and floor work all in a safe and controlled environment. All the children will be encouraged to try each available activity and there will be the opportunity for individuals to concentrate on a favourite or preferred activity. There will be opportunities throughout the week for participants to try every activity on offer.

Workshops will run daily for five days from 10.30am – 3.30pm with a demonstration to show off new skills to family and friends at approximately 2.30pm on Friday 03 August.

Move your Feet (come join us!) is a programme of three 6 week terms of great new workshops which starts on Thursday 23 February at the Youth Centre, 54 Hallowell Road, Northwood. The weekly workshops are divided two age groups; 10-12 year olds from 4.00pm -6.30pm and 13-14 year olds form 7.00 – 9.30pm.

Term 2 – Thursday 19 April – Thursday 24 May – Music Prodiction (MC/rap & music/video production)

Term 3 –Thursday 14 June – Thursday19 July – Music Industry/DJ & beat box

The project has been designed to excite and energise young people and to give them the opportunity to learn valuable new skills for life, leading to accreditation, whilst becoming involved in exciting and creative dance and music based activities.

Workshops will include street dance, music production, film, DJ and MC and lyric writing and will concentrate on a different activity each term to utilise the excellent facilities at the Hallowell Road venue.

The final week of each term will provide an opportunity for participants to demonstrate their new skills to an invited audience of friends, family and community members.

Accreditation - Northwood Young People’s Centre will record the individual progress of each participant and on completion of the course  will award accreditation for life skills learned or enhanced  by participation in the programme; aiming to help those young people gain a better chance in life moving forward.

Certificates will also be awarded at the completion of each 6 week term for creative skills learned.

Expert tuition will be provided by Urban Edge Dance which employs experienced teachers who are leading practitioners, many of whom have national recognition in the UK. All teachers and Youth Centre Staff have enhanced CRB certification. Project support is managed by ArtReach

Booking – Participants must attend for a whole term. There are limited places available for these fantastic workshops and booking is essential.

The first session each term will be FREE and following weeks will cost just 50p per person payable weekly on attendance.

Northwood Community Arts is delighted to announce a new programme of theatre performances for families this spring and summer. The Magnificent Flying Machine, the first in the trio of shows, will take place at 3pm on Saturday 24 March in The Hall, St John’s Church, Hallowell Road. Watch the crazy story of Prof Bix Horn and his hair brained plans as they unfold, and reminisce over times when the only on board computer on a plane was inside the pilot’s head.

Since it’s inception in 2005 Northwood Community Arts has endeavoured to provide exciting and innovative arts activities that are accessible to all, for the Community of Northwood and the surrounding area. Magnificent Flying Machine is the first of three family shows to be delivered over the next 6 months. With the help of funds received from the London Borough of Hillingdon this month, Northwood Community Arts aspires to extend it’s reach further into the community and to more residents that ever before.

Garlic Theatre are bringing The Magnificent  Flying Machine, an imaginative  puppet theatre show for all the family, to the The Hall at  St John’s Church in Hallowell Road Northwood on Saturday 24 March; The gate opens at 2.30pm so book your seats for take-off at 3pm! The journey time is 45 minutes and anyone from 4 – 104 will enjoy the ride!

Have you ever dreamed that you could have wings? Can you remember when the pilot flew the plane and the only computer was in his head?  If you have or you can then you will love this story of a hair brained journey of discovery.  Performer Mark Pitman will capture both your’s and your children’s imagination and take you on a wacky journey with of Prof Bix Horn who flies by the seat of his pants, using many familiar yet unusual objects to build his own flying machine.  Garlic Theatre use hand crafted puppets and original story lines to create wonderful entertainment for the whole family to enjoy.

Over the coming months and using a Big Lottery Fund award Northwood Community Arts will work in partnership with Northwood Young People’s Centre in the Youth Centre in Hallowell Road, Northwood to deliver an exciting new creative programme of music and dance for young people. This exciting programme will encourage development of new life skills over a series of three terms of innovative and creative dance and music based workshops. Experienced, professional tutors will lead weekly sessions for ages 10-12 and 13-14 in mixed media workshops which will include street dance, MC and DJ, music production and performance.  During the three terms of workshops participants will be given the opportunity to participate, plan and produce outcomes; on completion of each course participants will receive accreditation for new skills learned and certification for creative achievements.

Each term of six workshops will end with a demonstration of achievements the participants for an invited audience of friends and family, and local community members.
