In 1900, Northwood, Middlesex had a population of 2,500, 500 houses and 36 shops. Today it has a population of nearly 22,000 and over 70 independent businesses. It is expected that in the next decade, the village (part of Metroland and officially an ‘elevated residential settlement’) will undergo a radical make-over as Transport for London reconfigure property in the centre of the neighbourhood.
100+ years of shopping looks to celebrate the diversity which is Northwood by bringing together members of the community (all ages, local schools and businesses as well as faith groups) to capture stories of the past, document the changes Northwood has undergone and to provide a record for the future of what the village looks like now in the 21st century.
